However, many good causes have also seen a decrease in funds to stay operational due to cancelled fundraising events or people donating less money.&nbsp; But this hasn\u2019t stopped the good people of West Berkshire from digging deep and signing up to the West Berkshire Lottery to help the charities in their local community.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>To date, there are 118 local good causes signed up to the West Berkshire Lottery and over 1,000 players currently supporting the lottery each week. So far, the lottery has paid out nearly \u00a320,000 in winnings and has recently celebrated the third \u00a32,000 winner! The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: \u201cI was so surprised to find I\u2019d won \u00a32,000 as I\u2019ve only being playing the lottery for about a year.&nbsp;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>\u201cI\u2019d started playing to support Home-Start which is a local charity that I volunteer for.&nbsp; I\u2019ve given some of my winnings to Home-Start and some other local charities.&nbsp;<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>\u201cThe lottery is a great way to support local causes!\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>The Lottery was started in March 2019 by West Berkshire Council to offer local good causes and charities a fun way to fundraise. So far nearly \u00a362,000 has been paid out in funds to good causes.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>Grace Green from Home-Start said: \u201cWe were delighted to see one of our volunteers had won \u00a32,000 on the lottery.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>\u201cThe funding we receive from the regular lottery donations is essential to covering some of the day to day costs that keep our charity functioning to support families in need.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>\u201cOur lovely volunteer donated \u00a3500 of her winnings back to the charity for which we are immensely grateful. It is a great way for our supporters to help our charity for a small sum each week.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>Councillor Ross Mackinnon, Executive member for Finance and Economic Development at West Berkshire Council, said: \u201cTo have a collection of 118 varied causes at the end of the first year is great news. These range from wildlife &amp; animal organisations, schools &amp; PTAs, groups for young &amp; elderly people, community groups and charities.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>\u201cWe know how much of an impact raising funds through the lottery has had for the local charities across the district. The more tickets we can sell, then more funds can be raised for all the causes from as little as \u00a35 a month.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>\u201cThe pandemic has had a huge effect on charities across our community so being a player in the West Berkshire Lottery will help raise money to continue to fund these invaluable services to the communities and residents in West Berkshire.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>The Council recognises the essential contribution the voluntary sector makes across the district in many different ways. Working in partnership with the voluntary and community sector is a priority in the new West Berkshire Council strategy, together making the district an even greater place to live, work and visit.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>Residents and charities can both take part in the lottery and here\u2019s how:<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=1 type=1>\n<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:150%;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>West Berkshire good causes can set up their own lottery page, with 50p from each \u00a31 ticket sold going directly to local good causes with a further 10p going into the community fund &#8211; the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;line-height:150%;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>Players who do not wish to support a specific cause can still take part in the West Berkshire Lottery, with 60p of their ticket price going into the general community good causes fund, which will be distributed by the council. <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style='line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif'>The draw is weekly with a jackpot of \u00a325,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers.
